Turn-Key Barndo Financing

Turn-key builds typically require a construction loan. We’ve found that you are most likely to receive a loan for these types of builds from local banks or credit unions. Barndominiums often qualify for traditional home financing as long as the living space is >60% of the total building square footage. A few recommendations for local financial institutions are provided below, but most banks or credit unions will provide financing for a “steel-framed home”.

 DIY (Owner Builder) Barndo Financing

This is the most difficult financing source to obtain because most banks want a qualified general contractor to manage your build. Going with a loan aggregator like Scotsman Guide may be a good alternative. Owner Builder Loans LLC may also be a good alternative.

Shop/Garage Financing

Shop and Garage financing are generally achieved through either personal loans or home equity loans. The links below are who we typically recommend for personal loans. If you have assets that you can post as collateral (vehicles, tractors, etc. that you own free and clear), a local bank or credit union can likely provide a better rate. Generally, there is a $25k minimum requirement to qualify for 20 year loan.
